F & M class of 2018

I just got my F&M acceptance letter. I am so excited!!! anybody else got their letters?

Congratulations! I also received my acceptance. I am still waiting on a couple more schools before I make my decision though.

Just a question: has anything changed on your admission portal?

@Guille19 Nope nothing has changed. I don’t think they are posting the decisions on the portal.

abag i do not think that is correct. here is what i have in an email from f&m: “Admission decisions will be finalized in late March and all decisions will be posted on your student portal at that time”

well~ It seems that the result will be posted online. Wait and wait and wait > <

@sootylion Oh ok. I just assumed since my portal doesn’t say anything.

I got a letter in the mail yesterday, there was nothing on the portal.

yeah people have started to get letters but it appears the admissions office is waiting to put the decisions on the portal until later

Still no letter. Hope it’s only the problem of time… :frowning:

I think They are solely using Mail…anyone who got in planning to attend?

Portals will be updated by tomorrow evening.

[ul]
[]State (if domestic applicant): MD
[]School Type: Public

[]Income Bracket: 100,000-200,000
[li]Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Absolutely nothing![/li][/ul]

Reflection

[ul]
[]Strengths:Very good academically, including high scores and grades
[]Weaknesses: Essentially everything else! Extracurriculars average/weak, no hooks
[]Why you think you received your decision: They see me as a very good student I guess! I originally counted this as a safety school based on my scores and grades but I should not have! Multiple waitlists/rejections from schools that are a bit more difficult to get in to has taught me that the subjective stuff is too important and I probably should have lowered my expectations a bit more! At least it seems to have worked out in the end though!
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: Waitlisted: Kenyon, Bates, Colby, Rejected: Bowdoin, Middlebury (Still many to hear back from, but certainly not a good start! Glad for some good news from F&M here!)
[/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight: If you are a typical, white suburban student with few notable extracurriculars, good luck getting into those highly selective colleges! It would probably be better to apply to a wider range of schools that are easier to get in to than the ones I listed above so that you have more choices when it comes to financial aid packages! (I think applying for financial aid also hurt me a bit at some of the schools I applied to…) Trust me, I found many top colleges appealing and thought it could be realistic based just on my scores and grades, but this is not always the case! Apply to a few reach schools, but not 6 like I did! Also, don’t spend too much time on this forum when researching colleges, especially decision threads! I know it is tempting but they will freak you out and scar you for life! I speak from experience!

Son received clear large envelope today March 24 (in California) so you could see the words, “we choose you.” Nothing on his portal as of now, FYI. We visited last August, interviewed (45 minutes).

Accepted/RD

General comments/advice/hindsight: did not realize until we visited that only need-based aid; applied anyway, just in case, and hoping perhaps financial aid definition could be stretched a bit, but having learned a lot since submitting application in November that it seems like schools that don’t give merit really only do things "by the numbers/dollars, no out-of-the box thinking).

Here is the decision template for anyone who wants to use it:

General comments/advice/hindsight:

@McJayM are you an international student? did you apply for financial aid?

@Guille19 im gonna make a leap and say he meant to put “OH” next to state and not country, as it is short for ohio but no country that i am aware of. a good point on the financial aid though that should have been included somewhere on the template as it can sometimes have a significant impact on decisions

@Guille19 I applied for financial aid, from OHIO

Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I visited the school, had an awesome interview and then wrote a great supplement essay.
