I got an F on my transcript for a P/F class. (some classical civilization crap)
It doesnt affect my gpa, but what's the potential impact? I am looking at the top jobs that typically require 3.5 gpa (CISCO, Intel, AMD, IBM)? Will it be frown upon? How much worse is it compared to a W?

Employers do not normally ask to see a transcript. Write a good resume, polish you interviewing skill, and know your stuff during the interview will be the keys.

it is one of those classes i thought i dropped but i actually didnt and never showed up for any classes, no homework turned in, no exam taken

Perhaps you can appeal and get it taken off of your transcript; clearly, the fact that you haven’t put in an iota of effort towards this class but have performed relatively well in other classes shows that your tale of “thought I dropped the class” may have some credibility.

uhhh… really?

that is damn good news to me if this is true…

Every employee which placed me in the Hiring Manager Review position has asked for transcripts. Whether they review it closely … I’m not sure. They probably wanted to verify the GPA on the resume. But since your class is P/NP and is not in your major, I wouldn’t worry too much about it.

Some companies ask for transcripts and some don’t. I only had one ask for mine after I was hired, and that was a state agency that had a minimum GPA requirement.

Our student has had to provide a transcript of grades for an internship this summer. I believe some companies want transcripts.

We always had to show transcripts when we were looking for jobs.

I never had to show my transcript. Still, I would appeal the F grade and have it replaced with at least a W. Grad schools look at transcripts.
