On my junior year transcript I have and F in math, as a result, I am retaking the course over the school year. Will this get me denied immediately or do I still have a chance at getting into a college, like a state pr private university or ivy league? By the time I graduate I will have completed 7 AP classes and done fairly well in them. Also I am two years younger than my classmates resulting in me being 16 when I graduate highschool. With that said, how bad is my situation?
That’s really bad. I don’t think any ivy leagues or top 50s would accept that. They don’t even like seeing really anyBs. Depending on which one your talking about the average GPA for ivy leagues is like 3.8-3.9 UW. Other top 50 private schools are like 3.5-3.9. And that’s only the average. they reject people with higher gpas than that. That being said you should still be able to get into a college but it might not be the kind you wanted to go to originally. Could you explain with any legitimate reason why you did so badly in that class?
An F on a transcript is a very hard sell to any college. What I would recommend is join in a community college and transfer after two years. Some of them have truly brilliant (and specialized programs). It seems that you are more of an English person, so take some communications track in CC and see if you do well enough to transfer out to a 4 year university eventually.
There are a lot of schools in between community colleges and Ivy Leagues.
Like what has been said, an “F” on a transcript is very poor. Unfortunately, Ivy Leagues do not even like A-/B+ especially in a math class. Soooo many individuals apply to ivy leagues and get rejected with perfect standardized testing scores and a stellar GPA. Definitely look into schools that are less selective. You will definitely still be able to go to a 4 year school. Best of luck!
I agree. It would be hard to get into any top college with an F. However, if there was some really special/difficult circumstance surrounding the F (that doesn’t include it being an AP, challenging, bad teacher), maybe you could try to explain it.
