on tuesday i will go to the us embassy to apply for a visa... among all the documents they requeired SEVIS, a payment made for the I 20. does anyone know what it is and how can i pay it... give me an answer as soon as you can.... wish me good luck and cross your fingers

I think you got to pay that fee per creditcard on internet

do you know how much and the wbesite of the payment?

it's 100 dollars. You need the receipt for the payment so, I don't know if itll get to you on time for your interview. Sometimes universities pay that fee for you, too. Good luck with all that stuff. I have my interview on June 12...

Olsi,

You can pay that fee at https://www.fmjfee.com/index.jhtml if you want to pay it by your credit card online. I guess there is also an option paying via Western Union.

You need to type your I-20 number and passport number, perhaps.

It is $100.

I don't know the purpose of sevis.

Additionally, you need to wait three full weekdays to get an appointment, I don't know how you have already got your appointment date.

Good Luck...

By the way, you need to print the receipt of confirmation of your payment when you pay it online...

It's best to check the Embassy website for your country as to how the Visa applications work. I did a walk-in application. I had to wait around 2 hours, but I had my forms processed and got the interview. It might be different for you because not all embassies may offer the walk-in option.

Good luck.

The SEVIS fee is indeed for $100 and can be easily paid via credit cards. To pay the SEVIS fee log on to this website www.ice.gov/sevis fill in the I-901 form and take a print out of the receipt to carry it to the consulate.

Oooh, another urgent visa question:

Will name arrangement cause I-20 and visa problems?

Hey, I'm a University of California - Berkeley prospective student, and I just got my I-20 from the University. I looked at my name on the I-20 and they attached my middle name along with my last name to the last name section, with the result that my first name appears in the 'First Name' section, but BOTH my middle and last names appear in the 'Last Name' section. Do you think that will cause a problem (since the name does not EXACTLY correspond to that in my passport), or is it just a small detail that will not be a major cause of declining my visa, or is it just my obsessive-compulsive nature? Ooh, I forgot to mention: I am an international student based in Oman. Many thanks for the help! Please don't tell me it's gonna be a major issue, since I got this I20 through a heck lot of work... but I guess so have we all.

I think you should inform your Intl Student Advisor about this problem ASAP and s/he will tell you whether it's worth worrying about. Issuing a corrected I-20 form is only a matter of hours...

jeanatkin,

It really depends on how picky the embassy official who processes your documents is. You could possibly try it, but its a pain in the arse to go through all the waiting and queuing only to have them turn you away, making you reapply again.

Getting another I20 isnt difficult, the International Centre of your university should be able to issue you a new one relatively quickly. Just give them a call and follow up with an email and they will get it done for you.

Raoul is very right. Firstly it depends on the embasyy consular, if she is fastidious or not... but if you entrance to the embassy can wait i think you should inform the university and receive another I-20, it want cost you anything!!!

Thanks, guys, for the advice - I contacted the SISS at UCB (Services for International Students and Scholars), and they are going to issue a new I-20! They (or, at least, the system producing the I-20 can't separate the first name and the middle name, so they're attaching them together and placing it in the first name section, leaving the last name solitary. Yay for relief. Anybody yet to get their visa? I'm freaked out since I seem to be the last one in CC - I hope this is not bad, getting my I-20 this late!

I still need to get my VISA, and I have to wait till next month before it's my appointment date

don't worry i am in the same boat i probably will have to go for mine by the end of next month
