F1 Visa For Indians

Hey any Indians thru F1 visa interviews yet....if so postur experiences here...I have applied to Delhi consulate and my interview is on 22nd may for F 1...i m going to UVa...any suggestions or help...please do post....

are you paying the tuition or getting financial aid..

also are u getting any scholarship.. ( that helps big time)

The biggest sugestion is to be calm and confident and not be nervous whilereplying.. most of the time they will be checking on ur bonafide status and ur answers and wud be satisfied with it. Just chill and think and tell them what they want ....

also a little bit of extensive research on Uva wud help.. though dont start boasting off anything abt univ there and also be very humble with what you say..

in the end remember its only those 2 mins short interviews not a thesis writing so u wont get much chance to speak.. and ur presentation wud matter sumtimes more than even ur content which wud be obvious like the university name and major questions.. and how ull manage ur finances question..

SM

when i had my interview i was asked only three questions..

what is your purpose of entering the United States? --> Education..

What will you be studying? --> Biomedical Engineering

Who is the supritendent of your current high school? --> Bill Webb...

the guy didnt ask me for any supporting documents such as financial certification etc...

however, the day of my interview i was the only F-1 applicant and I applied from Indonesia so the visa is basically a given...unless you really screw it up..

so, like SM said....answer your questions confidently and don't stumble...also look at the interviewer when you talk instead of looking down....and one of the most important things is that you make sure you let the interviewer know that you are NOT planning to live or work in the states after your graduation....this is when immovable property documents come in handy..you can use them to show your binding ties to your home country and convince him/her that you will be returning to india or continuing further studies..

Hey, I'm an Indian in Dubai and I have to do the interview too. I go to an American school though, so they send in a representative from the US embassy to help us out w. the I-20 and prepare for the interview. The lady from the embassy said that they will likely ask you what you intend to do once you've received your degree. She said that when interview you, they operate on the assumption that you WILL try to illegally emigrate to the US, and it's up to you to convince them otherwise. So the answer to the abovementioned question is ALWAYS that you will return back to your home country/country of residence. Even if that's not what you're planning on doing; that's what you should say.

Hey... I'm an Indian who applied for a F-1 visa for high school from Dubai. It was a 5 minute interview during which he asked me the name of the school I was enrolling in, how I was going to finance my education and what were my plans after graduation.

I was really nervous but it turned out alright. Dont sweat it...

My parents are paying for the tution and living..i mean no financial aid....a lot definately depends on the one interviewing u!!

well this is the very basic common question of your only concern then :

How are you planning to finance your education?

Be ready to answer it lightly and midly with all details.. in brief ..

Well dont worry at all i wud say.. u wont be rejected a visa unless ofcourze u screw things like saying u will manage ur funds after going there .. or wlel u planning on PT jobs ,.. or u show lack of sufficient info on ur major and its prospects and or ties with the country and stuff

SM

haha...surprisingly i was never asked that question.....

Immigration is the real concern of visa officials.
Finances hardly is. They know that if you don't have money basically you are going to screw yourself over once you are there, so they assume that you have solid plans regarding money and usually don't check in that much detail. BUT they don't know if you might end up staying there... so...yeah.

staying there is a big concern for themm...it matters

I got my US VISA :D

But, it isn't as easy as many made it out to be.
4 guys in my batch at the Chennai embassy were rejected visa's cuz of Financial inappropriacies and one cuz they suspected her of going to college as an excuse to get into the country, leave college and start working as an illegal imigrant.
Better learn up ur father's finances...they aked that to everyone.

All the best guys :D

Hey Arjun Prakash...WAT ALL QUESTIONS DID tHEY ASK YOU

I got my visa..on 22 may...it was a 30 seconds interview!!

congrats manuj.. so well wat all did happen in those crucial 30 seconds of visa approval??

SM

Hey Congrats Man....
Tell us more about ur 30 second ordeal..

not an ordeal...he just asked why was i going to University of Virginia...and then gave me the visa...saying it was a top school and good i was going there
