I posted this in the 2021 thread bu thought I’d seek out the more experienced by posing the question in its own thread…It is about FA- DS got into #2 choice with FA. He was waitlisted at his #1 choice. The Revisit day for school he got into is later than most, so we will be able to fly up quickly & return without him missing too much. Anyway, we told him he could wait until revisit to commit (he’s still holding out hope despite our nudging to embrace what is vs. what could be with the odds of a lottery). The letter with the FA offer asked us to let them know as soon as possible if we’d like to accept it. Do they expect this to happen before A10? I mean, we wouldn’t accept FA before confirming his attending the school, right? I’m tempted to go ahead and do it all now-pay deposit & send in contract- but I feel I’d be betraying my son’s trust…any guidance is appreciated!
You are fine waiting until April 10th and not getting back to school #2 before then. I’m familiar with the wait list so the problem I see for you is there is just about 0% chance you will hear anything from school #1 before April 10th. You are going to have to accept/decline school #2 while you are still on the wait list for school #1 and know that FA off the wait list is double hard. Help DS love the school that loves him.
Thank you! That’s what we are trying to do! I think we, as parents, are about to make the executive decision. I actually wonder if DS needs us to do that for him, in a sense? And just put it to bed. Thanks for your input–sometimes you just need a little reassurance you are doing the right thing.
It’s perfectly ok to wait until after revisit to accept offer. As mentioned above if you decide not to attend school that offered you FA and just remain on the waitlist of #1 choice, chances of getting of waitlist are slim and if you do chances of FA are going to be slim as well. Waitlist are hard for many 13-14 yr olds to understand. We told our son if he didn’t come of his dream school’s waitlist by revisit day, we were going with one of the two schools that loved and wanted him. Of course we knew he wouldn’t come off the waitlist, but figured it was a way to help him see it for what it probably was, a soft rejection. In the end he loves the school he’s at now and says he wouldn’t change a thing.

If admitted but on FA Waitlist, what do they expect on A10 (can you remain on FA waitlist without signing contract for full pay?)
Wow–great question! We need a BS parents cliff notes! Or in my case- BS for dummies!
Love the school that loves you back, you just need one acceptance. You can wait, but I would go to school that has given you admission and aid already. Good luck
@infinityprep1234 I keep making sure Crosby, Stills & Nash plays in the car when my son gets in…if you can’t be with the one you love, honey, love the one you’re with…lol. Funny thing is, he does love the school he got into…I think he is still just a bit stung with his results…
For FA waitlist, I’d call the school a few days before A10 and speak with Financial Aid Director. We did get FA waitlisted at one school and was told by educational consultant it was because they knew their school wasn’t #1 or #2 on my child’s list. However if child wanted to attend they’d definitely open discussion for FA. But there are many schools that just don’t have the dollars to offer the aid all students need. Hope you get the money you need, I know finances play a big role for many of us.
