FA for some schools

I was thinking about applying to UMich(OOS), NYU, and Georgetown.
My EFC is pretty low, around 5k; could you guys estimate how much FA I would get at each school?

I know the collegeboard site says the %, but I'm not too sure because of OOS and Georgetown doesn't report it.

You should use one of the EFC calculators. Use the institutional methodology.

NYU does not guarantee to meet full need and neither does UMich. NYU is notoriously stingy with need based financial aid, although some students here have reported good merit aid from them. Unless you are a very high stats kiddo, it is likely (based on reports here) that you will not receive enough money to fill your entire need from NYU or UMich.

Georgetown guarantees to meet full need…based on THEIR formula for computing aid. They use the Profile in addition to the FAFSA. Assuming you have no significant family assets, I would guess that your aid at Georgetown would be pretty good.

UMich is mighty expensive for OOS students.

I have used the EFC calculator on collegeboard. What is the institutional methodology?

You have two choices when you do the EFC…FM (federal methodology) and IM (institutional methodology). The FM does the calculation similarly to the FAFSA EFC…the IM is similar to schools that use the Profile (although Profile schools use that info using their own formulas to compute financial aid).

NYU is a FAFSA only school. BUT NYU does not guarantee to meet full need.

Gtown and UMich use the Profile.

IM takes into account things like your home equity for your primary residence. FM does not.

with a low EFC, unless you have extremely high stats, NYU and Michigan (oos)
are not good choices for money.
