**FA for Waitlist...have to know by tomorrow!

Ok guys, a friend got in off the waitlist, and he has to call back tomorrow. The person he talked to said that Cornell wouldn't give FA until after he accepts..but he's in Duke, too, and got a pretty good package from them, so you can see why it would be ridiculous to just blindly accept Cornell.

What should he do?!! gotta know by tomorrow AM, so if anyone has had a similar situation or has some insight, that would be appreciated. thanks!

someone is awake.....

Duke's a good school, and honestly I don't think Cornell is going to give him a better deal. Does he like Cornell much more than Duke?

Cornell's FA is pretty decent! depends which school he likes best!

Also depends on his major. And his famly's income. I donno difficult choice...

Maybe this is where the rumor came from that Waitlisteds make out better if they don't need to apply for fin. aid. Dunno. I think I'd be up front with Cornell, though, and tell them he/she needs to make a final decision based on FA and see what they say. That would be terrible if you're offered a place off the Waitlist and can't take it because you don't have enough information about FA. Make sure the friend knows what kind of commitment Cornell is asking for--maybe it's just an indication of serious interest or something like that. A more likely than not, iow. Maybe that gives the school the go-ahead to work out the FA package. Anyway, your friend should ask people at the school about it, certainly before burning any bridges in either direction.

have him choose which school he likes best NOT CONSIDERING the money...the financial situation will most likely be pretty similar and will work out fine....obvs i would choose Cornell but Duke is equally as amazing

Acerbic: Just wondering? Why do you think Cornell's FA is decent? Compared to what? Do you or anyone else know it compares to other IL schools? I personally have trouble with the amount of loans. Yes they agree to meet 100% need but for us the need portion was met with self-help of about 75%.

----thanks for the input everyone!!! he's getting an offer first :)
