I gave up facebook for lent, gahhhh its sooooo difficult. :( I am suffering!

^^Jiminy Christmas. Its only ...Ash Wednesday.

mm i'm addicted to facebook...i go on it a lot in class...heh.

I quit Facebook twice already because it was screwing with my studies. Once was in October, and once just last week.

The first few days were pretty bad, but now, not really anymore.

I joined myspace first and loved it. Now I can't stand it. Facebook is boring but good to post albums and current status. I just signed on to buzznet, trying to capture when myspace used to be fun.

Sometimes I feel like I'm the only kid at our college who doesn't have a Facebook account...I just never saw the lure in giving away all of that personal information online. Isn't anonymity one of the lures of the Internet? Why give that up?

Plus, when people complain about professors or their possible employers checking facebook and seeing all the stuff they have up there, I can just lol and not have to worry about that.

Well, you can edit your privacy settings.

Start menu > Run...
cmd
notepad c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts
127.0.0.1 facebook.com
127.0.0.1 www.facebook.com

goodbye, compulsive internet addiction.

Tell that to them! My school paper had some editorial asking professors to stop looking at their Facebook pages because it had stuff that they didn't want them to see or some such crud. I still think the whole thing is funny, though. Kinda like self-ownage, no?

Leave your computer off. If there is something you absolutely need to do (such as check your school e-mail account), do it immediately before you have to do something else so you won't have time to log onto Facebook. For example, check the e-mail account 15 min before you have a club meeting. Having somewhere to be will force you to get off the computer.

Myspace is annoying. I have a page...but it's only a login. There's nothing on it but my name. Facebook is a bit more...realistic and easier to relate to. There are too many late-20, early-30 year olds on Myspace. It's ridiculous.

That said, I don't see how anybody can get addicted to Facebook. I guess if you have a lot of friends who are always, you know, doing stuff...I can see why you'd want to check it regularly. But there only so many pages you can see anyway and once you've checked it, uh, you've checked it. I don't see the addictive part of Facebook; that's probably why I like it so much better than Myspace.

I just hope they start allowing HTML on Facebook. The ability to link YTube vids is enough.

I have gmail and this firefox plugin that checks email for me. I also activate the facebook notifications that I care about (ie. wall posts and friend requests). Everything is done for me.
