Facebook Affecting College Chances?

I have heard about colleges viewing applicants’ Facebook and other social medias to help determine their acceptance.
I have a Facebook, but hardly use it. I haven’t posted anything and only have it to follow clubs at my school. I’m a pretty good kid, so I am not really worried about bad photos or posts getting leaked or posted online.
I have heard about how bad things on social media, like alcohol and vulgar language, can really negatively affect you if admission officers see it.
But what about positive things? Would posting about my achievements and awards on Facebook be beneficial?

I don’t really like Facebook, because I feel it’s so public. But should I build up my account if I want to increase my chances of getting accepted? Or is this all such a minor thing that it won’t really affect my chances at all. I kind of don’t like posting about my involvement and awards since it seems sort of like I’m trying to show off or gloat to others.
But if college admission officers see all the things I am involved in maybe it will help?
Any thoughts would be helpful

I feel like posting solely about your achievements might come off as braggy to your peers. You can list all of your awards and what not in your college app, it doesn’t need to be anywhere else.

No, seeing things on Facebook will not help you. It’s all about your application and your transcript. That’s where you should focus your efforts.

As far as your Facebook profile, the prudent thing to do is to have your settings set for the tightest security, showing as little as possible to people who aren’t facebook friends with you.

If you aren’t on Tumblr you are okay.
