some of my facebook friends have a lot of pics of them drinking and i was wondering if colleges cared about this at all... i mean its technically illegal but everyone does it.

Underage drinking? Probably would be best not to post the pictures

Yeah I know many people who post pictures of themselves doing these things as well but they still managed to get into college. When you really think about it, how are admissions officers going to be able to access your facebook profile, anyway? Most people do not allow those outside of their networks to view their profile.

Yeah, probably a bad idea to have friends that drink on your facebook profile. Get rid of them.

Personally, I don’t have a Facebbok or Myspace for those reasons, along with the time hassle.

I just re-read your question…

Well if it’s not you drinking I don’t think they will care much, especially if it’s not even pictures under your page.

I myself plan to get a facebook next summer, or which ever site would be more better for me… so far it seems like facebook, which has all the college groups etc…

If there are pictures of you engaged in illegal activity I would remove them. I wouldn’t worry about your friends’ pages, because even if a college decides to check you out on fb (and some do random Google checks) a school isn’t interested in your taste in friends.

One of the interview questions the admissions counselor (at a college that ranks interviews as “very important” in its CDS) asked my son was, “So, what kind of kids do you hang out with at school?” :D

during the appliaction season my default picture was me playing pong. a big school like NYU doesn’t have the time to check every applicants facebook page.

some employers do care, at least

i personally have heard of (and know) recruiting staff at certain top-tier nyc banks who browse facebook to see what they can find on their interviewees’ profiles

Yeah, I hear they have access to private profiles. Best to inform your friends…

How would they have access to private profiles?

^
You must not agree to something when making a facebook to prevent third parties, I’m not sure where it’s offered to edit on facebook, but I’m sure it’s there somewhere.
