facebook!

so is facebook popular at ucla or what? and i heard from a friend that future employers can snoop around on your facebook...for incriminating photographs or something of that sort. sounds like bs to me...

haha why would you post up incriminating pics of yourself up on facebook?

Yeah facebook seems to be pretty popular. I can usually search for an old hs friend and find them at UCLA. Employers can't snoop around unless they're UCLA alums (because otherwise they wouldn't be included in the network). What do you mean by incriminating? If one's over legal age, I don't see why he or she couldn't post pictures of themselves around alcohol... and I doubt anyone would be foolish enough to put anything degrading of themselves or others on their page (ie. nudity).

well that's just what she told me. is facebook like myspace? cause myspace is a bit uh risque, at times.

no not at all. facebook is pretty much exclusive to your University, whereas myspace allows anyone and everyone to view your profile. And I haven't ever seen a risque photo on facebook.

Yep, I can definitely vouch for this. I'm helping with hiring at my job right now, and we research people on facebook.

how do employers get access though to enter in the first place? and u cant view someones profile and stuff unless u "friended" them right?

..although i have seen faculty get a facebook account and use it before

no, you can view someone's profile as long as they're in the same network as you. ie, if you go to UCLA, you can view any UCLA student/alumni's profile and whatnot.

Potential employers can probably access any given UCLA student's facebook by coercing a UCLA alum who is an employee (and likely hired before the advent of The Facebook) to create a lurker facebook account using his/her deprecated @ucla.edu email address... Then the entire Human Resources department can lurk on the site under the alum's name, viewing profiles of any applicant and saving pictures for future incrimination.

wow thats pretty sneaky..i guess u can "lock" ur profile (or whatever its called) so only freinds can see ur stuff
