<p>He might want to look at Eastman. The dorm is right across the street from the main building. Most freshman get doubles, but he might be able to request a single. From sophomore year up they get singles. While Eastman is part of the University of Rochester, students never have to take a class at the main campus although many choose to.</p>

<p>Have you considered Carnegie Mellon? It is a beautiful self contained campus in the city. The newer dorms are quite nice,although I will say, we weren’t terribly impressed with the practice rooms. The food plan felt more like a “food court” arrangement, but there were plenty of choices.</p>

<p>I know someone mentioned NEC, but their current dorms (and the practice rooms) are pretty dated with communal bathrooms. I’m sure the new facitiy will be beautiful, but don’t know when it will be completed or if upperclass/grads will get priority. And like BU, it really doesn’t have a “campus” feel about it, but is more like school buildings along the side of a city street.</p>
