Facing academic dismissal...Now what?

Currently I attend a cuny senior college in nyc. Before I had gone to this school, I was attending a cuny community college but transferred after 3 semesters. Now I'm going through some personal issues and my grades have suffered as a result. I was put on academic probation, took a semester off and then had to write a letter to an appeals committee so that I could register for classes this semester. Now I regret coming back so soon because I still don't have my situation in order, and since I'm not doing so well this time around, its very likely that I will get dismissed. Personally, what I would like to do is take some time away from school and once I'm ready, go back to my previous school and earn an associates. However, I'm not too sure if they require transfer students to be in good standards at community colleges, in particular cuny cc's. Advice???
