Faculty Strength

The prestigious American Academy of Arts and Sciences announced their 2013 faculty inductees. These universities had a faculty member elected:

So much for the claims that Cal is riding on its past reputation…

This shows when it comes to faculty strength and achievements, the rich are getting richer. Hard for others to catch up and improve the all important peer assessment score.

Great post.

Northwestern would have had 5 if Obama didn’t nominate Janice Eberly for Assistant Secretary of the Treasury for Economic Policy.

^ Fair enough, Sam. I assume she’ll be returning to NU when post is finished.

Feel better? :)

I’ve heard that the faculty at Ohio State is particularly strong. Collectively, they’ve been able to bench-press the entire football team…

This honor may reflect great research and scholarship, but not necessarily great teaching. If all of the contact time is with their TAs then the “strength” is to the rep of the profs themselves and the U, not translatable to undergrad quality of life in the classroom.

Quite a few of those colleges appear on this top 15 listing.

^^^^^^^^^
maybe. USNWR polls administrators. The Princeton Review list “Professors Get High Marks.” based on student polls, tells a completely different story.
