FAFSA and CSS Questions

  1. Haven't started FAFSA yet but will do in the next couple days. Is it possible to start the FAFSA, get is partly completed, save, and go back in to finish at a later time or does it have to be done in one shot? If one shot, about how long does it take, I want to plan my time accordingly.
  2. The CSS was already sent to daughter's SCEA school. She has applied RD to three profile schools. Can I update the profile before I send it to these three schools? We live overseas and currency rates have affected the dollar sum of benefits since I completed it in October. I also have our 2014 W-2 instead of the estimates from 2013 (though amounts are nearly identical).

  2. No, I'm pretty sure it can't be updated except by hand on paper and snail mailed. They will compare it with the FAFSA and update any of those fields. All you can do is a hand update or send a note.

Thanks. We won’t get any aid, but I want my daughter to have the option of a loan if needed.

I thought the CSS Profile could be updated for new schools but schools that already had a copy would not receive it. Waiting on some more knowledgeable FA forum regulars to comment.

I’m not an expert on profile but I’ve read here that post #3 is correct.
