My younger daughter, who turns 24 in April, has applied to several graduate school programs. She hopes to get into a funded Ph.D. program. She is in the middle of her second year of post-college employment. She supports herself. Do I need to fill out FAFSA?
Are you asking if your daughter will be independent for FAFSA purposes? If she will be a graduate student at the beginning of the 2017-2018 school year, the answer is yes, for academic year 2017-2018, your daughter will be independent for FAFSA purposes.
Thank you, @BelknapPoint. That was what I thought but I wanted to double check with the experts here!
She will be independent for FAFSA purposes…but hopefully she will get a fully funded PhD position. Otherwise, grad school funding is not like undergrad finding. A $0 EFC won’t necessarily mean more financial, aid at the grad level. Grad level funding is merit based…not need based.
Got it. She has applied for NSF funding and is very aware of the financing generally. (More so than me, obviously.)
