FAFSA and Loans/Work study Question

If you didn't check that you wanted loans on the FAFSA, but you know that you might need them, will schools still offer them to you? My thinking was that maybe if I didn't check that I wanted loans (and in all honesty, I don't want them) the college would offer more money that does not have to be paid back. Was I wrong in thinking this? I have an EFC of zero, so should I change this on my FAFSA, or will they give me loans anyway?

Thanks.

Yes you were wrong in thinking that. They will not offer more grant money because you say no to loans (or work study). They will just leave a gap where the loans or work study would be. If everyone could just say no to loans and they’d throw more grants at us we would all say not to the loans.

Will the schools I sent the FAFSA still give me loans even if I didn’t check that? I guess what I’m asking is should I make a correction on my FAFSA.

If you didn’t check it I would imagine they won’t. I would either change it, or call the schools and ask them.

Okay. Thanks so much. :)
