so i did not recieve any money or grants from fafsa. all i recieved was my student loan and a parent loan through the government.
the thing is i will be staying off campus my freshman year. how do i recieve the money and when will i get the loan details/checks? i have to start payments to dobie august 1st.

contact the financial aid offices [FINANCIAL AID: Office Address, Phone Number and Hours](Cost & Tuition Rates - Texas One Stop - University of Texas at Austin)

i have mine set up for direct deposit via my bank account.
you can do that on bealonghorn when you click on the financial aid aid tab. i start in the summer so the dates might be different but i was told any money that i didnt use on tuition will be sent to me like july 9th

when do you usually recieve checks for the fall then?
i set up the bank account already

The earliest federal aid (including Stafford and Plus loans) can disburse is 10 days prior to the term. However, UT generally disburses aid around the 1st day of class. You may need to pay August rent out of pocket. The UT dorms allow you to defer payment until aid is available -contact Dobie directly to see if they will too.

ok thank you!

also, when we pay for tuition for the fall by august 11th do we pay that out of pocket or is our money just mailed directly to ut if we are using financial aide?

The school will automatically subtract “expected” financial aid from your tuition bill. For example if your bill was $5,000 and you were going to receive $3,750 (say from a Stafford Loan) you will only have to pay $1,250 on the day tuition is due by.

When financial aid funds are released near the first day of class, if you end up owing any more money (like, if your loan or grant ends up being less because of a fee or something) you will have to pay the difference then.

The only way you can get your hands on the financial aid money is if it exceeds the cost of tuition and housing (if you are on campus). Otherwise the school uses it automatically before you have to pay with your own money. If you would be receiving money, you would get it when funds are released near the first class day.

ok thank you!
do we call the office to recieve the funds since i will be staying off campus?
because in my loans i said i was staying off campus and my parents need the money to pay dobie

It seems like a lot of people on this board have to take out loans.

unfortunately. :s
it seems, i had a college fund ready and set until two years ago when it sort of burnt away.

haha cause the government is cutting back on grants!
