FAFSA and SSA maiden name mismatch

My wife is in the process of applying for FAFSA but we've run into an issue with her pin. When she first applied for FAFSA back in 2007, we weren't married. She finished school with her associates and later we were married. She's now going back to school but FAFSA won't allow her to electronically sign her application as there is an information mismatch with the SSA.

I've read several posts and usually it has something to do with their maiden name with the SSA. We were married 4 years ago and she had her social security card changed at that time. We've moved addresses since then. Could that be the issue? While applying she used our current address and her new last name. When we try to view the total balance of 600% claimed we're forced to use her maiden name. So apparently the FAFSA system didn't update.

We applied for a new pin with the most current information but were told that it does not match the SSA. Our next bet is to call the SSA but I would appreciate any input. Thank you.

SSA doesn’t care about addresses, but it is very likely they never changed her name or made a mistake in the spelling or something when she did, so it’s not matching now. Yes, she can have a card with the same number and her new name and it is STILL wrong in the SSA system. She can call, but they won’t change anything on the phone. I’d go down there with marriage license, driver’s license, copies of your tax forms for the last few years and make sure it is all correct.

Have her read this: https://pin.ed.gov/pinnamefaq.htm</a>.
