fafsa and taxes

I am 24, almost 25, and this is the first time I can really apply for fafsa. I am considered an independent for fafsa due to my age. However, I live with my parents, and when my dad files their taxes, he lists me as a dependent for a tax break. If I file for fafsa, since I am independent, will he not be able to list me as a dependent on his taxes?

If you qualify as a dependent under IRS rules (he should check this), he can still claim you as a dependent and it will not affect your status as FAFSA. FAFSA classifies all students who are 24 or older as independent, regardless of their dependency for IRS purposes.
