FAFSA and whatnot help...

OK guys, I don't post here often but i do read a lot.

I am done with my applications to schools and now I am worrying about paying for them.
My family is well off and in terms of (~300k yr/) and 2 owned homes in the Northern Virginia Area. I don't know if filling out a FAFSA will do any good for me because of my family? If I go instate there will be no problem, however if i go out of state like a school like GWU, than money will be an issue.

I DO NOT want to mooch of my parents and have them pay for college out of state, that is why I am asking how do I go about loans or whatever?

I am hoping for some Merit based money , Full IB Diploma, and pretty good student.

Thanks for the input guys! Hopefully things work out!

Also on some of my applications i wrote that i would be applying for need base. Will this negativity impact me if it turns out that i do not qualify? Should i call the schools and let me know I made that mistake? Is there any chance in the world that i will get need base?

With an income of $300k you are unlikely to qualify for need based aid even at the most generous schools. For FAFSA the primary home is not a reportable asset - the other property will be.

By filing FAFSA you will be eligible for federal Stafford loans - these are student loans in your own name. They require no cosigner. As a freshman you will be eligible for $5500 in Stafford loans.

Should i contact the schools and let them know I will NOT be applying for need base? Will that make a difference in admission?

I’m confused. If you’re not going to have your parents pay, how will you pay to go OOS (Out of State)?

How much are your parents willing to pay for your education?

Are you a junior or senior?

No one is going to loan a student enough money to pay for OOS costs.

You mentioned merit scholarships. What are your stats? GPA and ACT/SAT (including SAT breakdown)?

IF you’re a senior, you’ve missed many scholarship deadlines, altho there are still a few.

What schools are you applying to?

*Should i contact the schools and let them know I will NOT be applying for need base? Will that make a difference in admission? *

Have you already applied? Did you indicate that you would be applying for aid?

Well they are willing to help me pay, but i want to see the alternatives. They are willing to spend the four year tuition if they think its worth it( As in Ivy or schools like JHU) for OOS. I am a senior.

GPA is 3.8 Full IB Diploma.
720 Math
630 English
620 Writing

29 ACT

800 Chem Sub
690 Math 1

I am also Indian, from India.

Taking Bio, Math 2, and Lit in January, i know its a bit late but just to take them.

I have already applied for the schools and yes I have indicated that i would be applying for aid. I don’t know if acceptance rates are higher for children who do not need aid, so that is why I want to make my chances as high as possible for the schools I am applying to.

Schools are UVA, WM, VCU which are instate and I am not worried about.

Cornell, JHU, Drexel, Chicago, UW Madison, UNC, and GW. I know some of these schools are Reaches, but its fine.

It means a lot to me that you have taken time to respond.

Thanks!
