My daughter is a HS Jr and decided yesterday to go on and graduate a yr early this summer with 2 online courses. She already had Joint Enrol. Admission to Oglethorpe Univ for Fall. The Admissions officer said she could do early admissions in Fall as Freshman and would be eligible for merit scholarships but we would need to do FAFSA.

Here are my questions.. As the mom... I did not have a job last year and made $0. Ex-husband is non-existent. We live with my parents currently. I understand that as I made $0 I do not need to file IRS. When I file FAFSA will they reject my daughter's application or will I have to prove or send a letter saying I did not work? Anyone have any insight on this? And GOOD NEWS.. I start a new job May 15th but I know it doesnt affect 2005 info for FAFSA.

ANY INFO WOULD BE GREAT! THANKS1

I am a student and I was in the exact situation. I filed my FAFSA and their was nothing hard about it. My EFC was 0000. You will not need additional information, just fill in the form and everything went fine. Although, I am currently a student, I believe that my response is correct.

However, both your daughter and you will have to apply for a pin if you complete the FAFSA online.

File a late 1040. Since no income, no penalty but now you have established your basis. Also file the fafsa NOW before you start your new job. The data on the fafsa is current of date of filing; Lots of good threads.

You do not need a 1040 to file FAFSA. I work with students all the time whose parents do not have 1040s to file. AS far as the new job, the income listed on FAFSA is for last year. Your new job will not affect it; if you started working anytime from Jan 1 on, this has no bearing on the current FAFSA. The only thing current on it is present assets, so if you end up with a bunch of savings, that would show up on the FAFSA. I'm guessing that's not liable to happen here, though, certainly not fast enough to have much effect on FAFSA.

So, how did you support yourself this year? I'm asking out curiousity.

You do not have to file anything - your FAFSA should not be rejected and if the school needs any further verification you fill out a form (not sure of the number) requesting verification from the IRS that you did not file taxes. The IRS then sends a letter to you or to whoever needs it stating that you did not file --- in this way in documents that the IRS recognizes that you had no income.

Feel free to PM me if you have any questions.
