I applied for FAFSA in like Feb 5th or so.
After getting accepted to some colleges, I decide to call and check if UMBC(the school I am most likely to go) has received my FAFSA.. Then I found out that they did not received my FAFSA and I applied to the wrong school.. I applied to University of Maryland, Baltimore instead of University of Maryland, Baltimore county.... And the school code is only 1 digit away.
But luckily, they said " It's not too late to file your 2012/2013 FAFSA, even if you missed our priority filing date of February 14th." in an automated email."

I want to know will my aid be deducted after the priority deadline?

First of all, FAFSA does not give any aid. The schools do. Those that use FAFSA only to give aid may well have run out of aid. You will have to ask UMBC about that. But FAFSA gives you a number called the EFC and that will determine eligibility for the PELL grant and possilbe subsidy of some loans you can take from the federal government. That is all your EFC guarantees.

It may or may not affect your aid. It depends on your individual circumstances (i.e. what aid you would have been eligible for) and the school’s policies.

Some aid you get whatever you EFC and the school’s COA entitles you to. For instance the Pell grant. Applying late will not affect that (if you are eligible for it). Other aid is very limited and school’s run out of those funds. Applying late will affect that aid. For instance for federal aid, if your EFC was low enough to qualify for SEOG, Perkins or Work Study, those are what is called campus based aid and they have very limited funding. Once the school has awarded the funds they have, they can not get any more so can not offer any more. (eligibility criteria for these is determined by the school itself and will vary from school to school).

And any aid offered from the schools own funds may be affected - depends on their own policies.

My son is also considering UMBC. We’ve been for about 6 different events: Stem Scholars meeting, open house, Meyerhoff meeting, etc. Every single time they tell everyone about their number being only 1 away. UMBC has this happen to students every year. I wouldn’t worry. UMBC will come thru for you. Also – they haven’t sent out their aid packages yet – so you aren’t far behind everyone else. Good luck
