FAFSA Asset Verification

DS hasn’t been selected for verification, but I’m starting to panic reading about how often they do, not that we filled out anything wrong (my assets don’t count for Federal aid anyhow), but how do I verify my assets as of that particular day? I’m thinking I should have taken screen shots or something…

Then I looked at a verification form for one of the schools we applied to and it simply has you writing in what your assets were the day the FAFSA was filled out. Is that seriously all the verification usually is? If so, I’m going to quit worrying about it. But, it seems like a rather pointless way to verify.

Different schools do verification different ways.

So, what kind of documentation should someone have in case they are asked to verify? Just in the week since I’ve filed things have changed. I’ve gotten a paycheck, stock market increased (I think), and I paid off a credit card.

Just do what the schools tell you to do.

You should be able to go online and scroll down and find the account balances as of the day you filed your FAFSA.

Don’t panic. It’s probably going to be just fine. Just give them what they ask for. And nothing else.
