Has anyone used one of the FAFSA assistance programs? Wondering how they work and if they are worth it? thanks;)

No, they are not worth it. FAFSA is pretty easy to fill out. The 1st F in FAFSA stands for FREE. No reason to pay someone to fill out a form that specifies exactly what you need to fill in on each line. The FAFSA web site has a page that will explain line by line what each question means. Last years is here:
[Completing the FAFSA 2010-2011/The Application Questions](http://studentaid.ed.gov/students/publications/completing_fafsa/2010_2011/ques.html)

The new one is not available yet, but will be similar. If you have questions come here and ask. Do not pay to fill out FAFSA. If they ask for money you are at the wrong site.

Thank you swimcatsmom for the info…Would you know how to determine the value of your investments. thanks again :)

You should get a statement at year end with the value of the investments as of Dec 31st. We just look at the amount of each thing and then look up the value on the day we file FAFSA. For instance if we own 223 dupont stocks we go to CNNFN and plug in dupont to get the price on that day and multiply by the number of stocks we own. Most stocks and mutual funds are listed and you can get the value on a daily basis.
