FAFSA.com

Hi. My dad is trying to file my FAFSA and he found this website, www.FAFSA.com, that will file it for you and everything and make sure there's no errors and whatnot. It costs $80.

Now, getting financial aid is a very important thing for me, and I want to make sure we do this right. My parents and I are clueless about all of this. I told him that this website phone service sounded suspicious to me. It's supposed to be the FREE Application for Student Aid....sounds kind of like a scam to pay someone to do it for you.

What do you think? Have you ever heard of this website, FAFSA.com? Is it reliable?

NO NO NO...The FAFSA is FREE. You do not need someone taking your money to do this form. The correct website for you is FAFSA.gov

avoid fafsa.com. go to fafsa.ed.gov! it's absolutely free!!!

fafsa.com is a scam!! trust me!! my guidance counselor spoke to my class about it! a lot of graduates last year end up doing it and got a screwed over! DON'T DO IT!

go to fafsa.gov!

the FAFSA website is:

fafsa.ed.gov

FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid

If you/your parents have not yet applied for a PIN, go to

pin.ed.gov

U.S. Department of Education - The PIN Web Site

Also check with your school to see if there is a FAFSA workshop or something that you and your parents can go to. At our HS we have a workshop in January with folks to help parents and students complete the forms accurately and get them submitted. We even have help available in several languages. If your HS doesn't have something like this, your local community college may have. Check it out and good luck!

FAFSA.COM is a site you can use, but only if you feel you or your parents can not or have trouble filling out the FAFSA application, which is free. BEWARE of other sites-- there were scam sites, and people went to jail for that stuff-- i had a website that talked about it but can't find it ill try to look for it again. FAFSA.COM is a legit website, they have people fill out the application for you, like H&R Block has people do your taxes. I don't advise using the site, but that is the ONE site i feel is something people can use if they have to

FAFSA is not that difficult to fill out. You do not need to pay someone to complete it for you. They will be entering the same information you would enter yourself. If you have questions about how to answer any of the questions come here and ask. We will answer for free.

There is also a pdf you can download which has more detailed instructions on how to answer the questions.
Completing the FAFSA: Financial Aid from the U.S. Department of Education

About 2/3 of the way down the page where it says
"You can download Completing the FAFSA, 2009-2010, in PDF format in English and Spanish."

waterbed,

FAFSA is really easy to fill out. It took me about 30mins and I am doing this for the first time. All you need is your tax return and w-2s.

eparkk, as someone who has had many students complete the FAFSA through FAFSA.com, I will state adamently that it is NOT a legit website. Most FAFSA's do not get received by the school...and for those that do, they are normally very messed up. Most often they lack the student/parent signature.

If you want the FAFSA submitted correctly and timely, the only way to do it is through FAFSA - Free Application for Federal Student Aid for FREE.

There is great unanimity here.
