Hope someone can clarify this. UC deadlines for Fafsa is March 2, right? Well, we’ve just been told that some mutual fund tax info won’t come until mid-March. We submitted an estimate to Fafsa already, saying “will file” for tax status. Do we need to submit the corrected version based on finished 2006 returns before March 2? If not, how can schools give a FA package with his acceptance in mid/late March. UCLA even notifies in early March. Thanks.

You have to get yourself inside the FAFSA system by March second. Preferably, this is done by entering 2005 data. FAFSA lets you update your file whenever you have your current 2006 tax info. I'm ~80% sure that you can update this after March second, should a delay occur.

If you're worried about meeting deadlines, you should just estimate your FAFSA figures. You should underestimate how much your family will be able to contribute. The most important thing is just to submit the thing in time. Wherever you end up going, you can have it changed and they will alter your aid. It's easier to reduce your aid by under-reporting rather than saying you have a higher EFC than you do and then having to get MORE aid.
