FAFSA EFC is over $224,000! This has to be a mistake!

@twoinanddone Yes, great news - the school was able to submit the correction to the Federal Student Aid website, and we received notice that our SAR was updated. I logged into our account and see our EFC is now corrected on the official FAFSA report. I am very happy as I thought I would have to reach out to every school she was accepted to.

@“Erin’s Dad” I am indeed very thankful for the help experts were able to provide here.

My son and I went through the FAFSA application a few weeks ago, and because I had done a rollover last year and had read on this forum about people often overlooking the question, I was on the lookout for it.

I must say that this aspect of the FAFSA form is terrible and it is extremely easy to overlook the question about having done a rollover if you use the IRS DRT. The question shows in a middle of a page where everything else says “Imported from IRS” and the answer defaults to “no”. So, you have to realize that the “no” preselected as an answer on this page is actually the only piece of information that is not coming from the IRS, and manually change it to a yes and type in the amount. There is no indication whatsoever that the default answer might be wrong and should be reviewed.
