Maybe the family should pay the student’s EFC of $17,000.
@sybbie719 I’m sure another way can be found. I don’t find that a compelling argument for not providing ALL students with breakfast and lunch.
The school I used to work at was 100% FRL and the difference before and after breakfast was night and day.
Oh, you can provide free breakfast and lunch for all of your students, the school would have to absorb the cost (because there is really no such thing as a free lunch) for all students who are full pay, don’t apply or have incomplete applications.
You could just have the schools apply for Title 1 funding, not apply for free lunch. They could use the same forms, but just not use them for free lunch.
In Denver public schools, all schools serve free breakfast every day to every student. There are a few ways the schools can choose to do it (full cafeteria service, grab and go, delivered to classrooms), but all schools offer it. They also have free lunch and breakfast all summer for anyone. Not every school does it, but most in the poorer neighborhoods do. The schools can offer other things at that time too, like open library time or activities.
There is also a program for where backpacks are loaded with food for the weekend for the family. Denver schools rarely have snow days because if kids don’t go to school, they often don’t eat.
