FAFSA for med school

When filling out FAFSA for med school, is parent’s info included? It seems like some schools care about parent resources and others don’t care. My D is 22. Thanks!

It depends on the school’s policy.

Although your D will be considered independent on FAFSA because she has earned her bachelor’s degree, many schools still want parental financial info before they will award their own institutional funding.

Your student can submit their FAFSA without the requested parental financial info, but will only be considered for federal student loans.

Private medical schools (and many public ones) generally consider students to be financially dependent on their family until age 28-35 (depends on the specific school’s policy) --even if the student is married, has been living away from home and been self-supporting for years. If family financial info is requested, a family EFC will be assigned. FA will take the family’s EFC into consideration before awarding non-loan aid.

Thanks so much! We included parent info on the FAFSA.

If it’s any consolation…there isn’t a lot of need based aid awarded to medical school students…unless you consider loans a form of need based aid.

There are some medical schools that do have some need based aid, but it’s not like undergrad school where some schools meet full need. That seldom happens in medical school.

For the very vast majority of medical school students, funding is loans, loans and more loans regardless of what the parents include on the FAFSA.
