I was accepted into Penn State’s summer session, and they asked me to submit my FAFSA for 2014-2015. I know that I should submit it ASAP, but what if I haven’t decided what college I’m going to attend yet? Can I just submit my FAFSA for 2014-2015 even though I haven’t accepted my admission yet? Would there be any penalty if I decided not to attend PSU after I’ve submitted my FAFSA?
You can submit your FAFSA to any number of schools. It doesn’t matter if you don’t attend the school in the end; most people who apply to multiple schools end up submitting financial aid forms to all of them even though they know that they will only attend one. The big thing is not to miss any deadlines.
If I’ve already sent the 2015-2016 state grant form, do I have to send another one for 2014-2015?
I’m not sure what the state grant form is. I do know that you have to submit the FAFSA for the aid year that they specify. It sounds like the summer of 2015 is part of the 2014-2015 year (at least for them) so they would want that form too. I would call them and check though, if they don’t have clear directions on their website like they did for the FAFSA.
Yes, submit the 2014-15 one also, asap. This way they can process aid for you for the summer session IF you should attend. It seems that the summer belongs to the previous aid year (it varies by school.) It doesn’t obligate you to attend, but they will have your aid ready if you do.
I think you need the 2014-2015 form for state grant too, however, money for 2014-2015 usually ran out already.
Thanks everyone!!!
