today i got an email saying that they updated my fafsa.

My efc went up from $19 to $1,111.

I checked my financial aid toolkit and my awards are still the same.

Why did they decide to update it now?

Why did they decide to update it now?

Unfortunately, it was probably more that "they" were updated. FAFSA is a federal thing, and based on income tax returns for you and parents, someone adjusted the figures and sent the info to FSU who then made the adjustment. The timing is terrrible. It can be so unfair, I agree.

Just curious, why does it matter if all of your scholarships are the same?

In many instances, awards based on financial need (and not merit) are awarded for the first dollar AFTER the estimated family contribution is made. So if you have 100% bright futures for tuition, and you don't have enough merit aid/scholarships for all of room/board/books, the financial aid starts after you are billed for $1,111.

Oh, I see. Well, I'm sorry to hear that tomatoking. See how the government likes to screw us over? Hopefully your scholarships will cover everything so you don't have to pay the $1,111. Good luck!

Well my single mom is now making about 5-7k more than last year so now I don't qualify for the Pell grant. Its funny because the 5-7k more shes making will now be paying for my housing. Got to love the system.

my pell grant went down by $1,000

meh
