So I am going to a community college here in a few weeks. My school just sent me a letter saying they couldn't reward me with anything from my fafsa until my step dad sends in his tax info. My mom did but not him, because he doesn't file. I don't know what to do.

If your step-dad doesn’t need to file taxes, there is a “non-filer” form that he can complete for the FAFSA. Pick up the phone and call the financial aid office and get their help with this.

If your mom is remarried, she is REQUIRED to put your stepdads information on the FAFSA regardless of what it is. Omitting that means your FAFSA is inaccurate and incomplete. She needs to get that info and amend that FAFSA ASAP, or the school will not process your aid request.

The non filer form is for folks who are not required to file taxes. If your stepdad is not required to file taxes, he can complete this. If he should have filed but didn’t, that is another story.

In this case, since the OP is currently under verification review, I suggest contacting the school to find out if they want the OP to correct the FAFSA or if they prefer to do it themselves based on info received during verification. I always preferred being the one to update the FAFSA when possible if verification had already begun.
