FAFSA/IDOC - IRS not yet processing Form 8863

<p>I e-filed my return, and received the message that the IRS is not accepting electronic submissions of returns with Form 8863 (Education Credits) until mid to late February.</p>

<p>My D is applying to colleges, and the cutoff for some of the schools is Feb 15 to submit for a March 1 deadline.</p>

<p>In order to meet those deadlines, you can't use the import feature of FASFA to populate the return information, and you can't wait to see if there is a rejection from the IRS before filing final numbers with FAFSA and CSS-IDOC.</p>

<p>So, I'm treating it like I filed a paper return, and giving the info as it is today.</p>

<p>That is what we are going to do too. We will have to make corrections to FAFSA later than previously planned.</p>

<p>I understand there is a time lag between when you electronically file to the IRS and when the information can be connected to fafsa, so the timing probably won’t work for many people.</p>
