Hello. So, i just submitted by FAFSA application and at the end it gave me my estimated family contribution

I am very confused/concerned because it says my estimated family contribution is: 003838

i am confused as to why the 00 is in front of the number. perhaps it is just there for those who’s expected family contribution is like 20,000 or something??

please let me know if its actually 0 or $3838

Yes, 003838 = $3838.

Your first guess is correct, you drop the leading 0’s and your EFC is $3,830. This means you qualify for a bit of Pell Grant. Just be careful to run the Net Price Calculator for particular schools so you will have a better idea of costs at that school, as Pell is not enough to pay most tuition and expenses.
