FAFSA & IRS Data Retrieval Tool

It’s been at least a year since most of us have used the DRT so you may have to remind us what the questions are to get an answer.

I think first 2 are NO and 3rd is Yes on the FAFSA form before you link to IRS

The questions about having an amended return, filing separetly, filing head of househole, etc. that are used to determine if you can use the DRT

These are the criteria that might prevent using it.

• You filed taxes as married filing separately
• You are married and you filed taxes as Head of Household
• You filed an amended tax return
• You filed an electronic tax return less than two weeks ago
• You filed a paper tax return less than six weeks ago
• Your address on the FAFSA is different from the address on your 2013 Tax Return
• Your current marital status on the fafsa is different than it was in 2013
• You filed a Puerto Rican or foreign tax return

The e-file and paper filing timeframes are approximate and temporary. You can always try before that. It depends on how the question is worded as to whether yes or no will get you through to trying for the others.

Thanks Annoyingdad

Those are the questions I was asking about.
