my dad and I have started on this application already and we're half-way through. I thought it opens Jan 1st however?

It opens Jan 1 for filing for the 2015-16 school year. You are filling out the one for 2014-15 likely. That won’t be used for your schools if you are applying for next fall. Only if you are entering school spring 2015.

I only see the 2013-2014 and the 2014-2015 FAFSAs on that page. Were you able to get to the 2015-2016 one already?

Look carefully at the dates of the FAFSA you are completing. You need the one for the 2015-2016 school year.

Is that the one you are doing. If not, stop…and just wait until next week.

OP must be working on 2014-2015 FAFSA. OP could wait until this Thursday, 1/1/2015 to work on 2015-2016 FAFSA

You all should do a minute amount of research before discounting this student’s claim.

https://fafsa.ed.gov/

In the Announcements section, “The new 2015-2016 FAFSA is here! To begin your application, click Start A New FAFSA.”

Yes I have done that. I could only apply for 2014-2015 FAFSA. I can’t apply for 2015-2016 FAFSA, despite the announcement.

Also, my daughter could not renew for her 2015-2016 FAFSA either.

Same here for a returning student. Logged in but 2015-16 not available yet.

Not available for me either. The wait’s so nerve racking lol, don’t wanna have to dwell on soph. aid anymore

The website is “getting ready” for January 1st. The 15-16 application will not be ready for business until January 1.

Lilliana330, just a word of caution … even though you may submit your FAFSA on January 1st, your school may very well not process aid for returning students until later in the spring.

@kelsmom Ahh I know lol, but I already know what the package will look like, since all possible institutional aid = replaced by merit & federal aid should be same as shown in Fafsa4caster. Just gotta get the app out of the way, which is why I’m a tad angsty :P
