I got admitted into CCNY and have been living in NY (used to live in NJ) since 7/2014 to try and gain residency before classes start in 8/2015. I have been paying NY bills for my apt, bank account transferred to my new address, and filed my taxes in NY for 2014.
Fafsa is asking “When did you become a legal resident of New York? Enter the month and year. (mmyyyy)?”. I’m lost as to what date to put. Please help!
You are supposed to enter the date and year which is 07 for the month and 2014 for the year, since that is when you say you moved to NY. Whether you qualify for NY TAP money (apply for it–it automatically links with the FAFSA ) depends upon the rules. Also it depends on the deadline CCNY has as to when the count the year. You have to read the requirements carefully.
For FAFSA reasons, I think that it just is looking to see what state taxes you will be paying, and it doesn’t matter as long but the answer has a lot of ramification in terms of possibly getting TAP.
Onigirli…how old are you? Are you an under 24 undergrad?
