FAFSA lost my application PLEASE HELP.

I submitted my FAFSA on the day of the deadline. Although I included my e-mail I did not receive anything. However my mother received the e-mail I have provided below. Now, when I log into fafsa, there is no application to be found for 2011-2012 and I can not find the confirmation number. FAFSA representatives are not helpful & simply tell me to fill out a new FAFSA but, with the state budget cuts, I know i will receive little to no aid after the deadline. I will be returning to UC Davis in the fall and can not afford to pay on my own, nor would I like to take out more loans. PLEASE HELP.

Subject: FAFSA - 2011-2012 Student Aid Report

This is to notify you that a 2011-2012 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for MICHELLE XXXXXXX was processed on MARCH 02, 2011 and the data will be made available to the school(s) listed on the student's application.

A Student Aid Report (SAR), which contains a summary of the student's application information, is now available.

If the student provided an e-mail address, an e-mail message has been sent to the student with a link to the student's SAR on the Web.

If the student did not provide an e-mail address, a paper SAR has been mailed to the student and should be received within 14 days.

If you need more information about your financial aid application, visit FAFSA on the Web at Home - FAFSA on the Web-Federal Student Aid.

You may also call the Federal Student Aid Information Center at 1-800-4-FED-AID (1-800-433-3243).

Call that number and tell them about the email your mom received

Your mother’s email should be enough to indicate that a FAFSA was filed for you. I would suggest contacting the financial aid office at UC Davis to see if they have received a FAFSA for you. If so, ask them to check the identifying information: Name (first name and last name are sometimes entered by student in the wrong order, and this can mess things up), date of birth, social security number. If you incorrectly entered any of these when doing your FAFSA, it can cause problems for you when you go to find it. For example, when a student enters the wrong name (like last first/first last) or SSN, I can’t pull it up in the federal system. I can pull it up in our system if there is something that can be linked to the student that is actually correct - other times, it ends up in a “suspense” file & I can ask our IT person to try to find it & link it to the student. Hopefully, you can find a helpful aid officer or manager who might be able to figure this out for you.

Thank you so much! I ended up calling my financial aid office & they were able to give me the wrong social security number I entered. I am now waiting on my SAR in the mail so I can make the correction! :)

I also suggest that you talk to someone in the financial aid office about whether you need to provide a copy of your social security card. We would require that you submit a copy of it for our files. Once we have an incorrect SSN on file, we need proof of the correct SSN to maintain in our files. We also have to do some behind the scenes “fixing” to keep from having future issues that relate to the initial FAFSA being filed under the incorrect SSN.
