So we received our Financial aid packets and I couldn't believe how low it was...turns out i messed up our Fafsa and included out home as a net asset. How should I proceed? I corrected it and re submitted and called my son's #1 choice and left them a message to call us back. Is there anything else I should do?
Thanks...what a maroon....

Raken, are your colleges FAFSA only schools or did they also use the CSS Profile or a school financial aid form?

Just call them and ask.

He wants to go to UMASS and they only use the Fafsa. The other schools used the profile as well and we got more money from them. I did call and left a message. We’ll call again.

Do you mean University of Massachusetts — Amherst?

Make sure you talk to someone if they don’t call back … call again. You want to make sure this doesn’t fall through the cracks. Now that the package is done, and it isn’t an over award, it probably would escape the school’s attention if you don’t let them know of the update.

UMass is a public university. They do not meet full need…and their aid mostly consists of federally funded need based aid. You absolutely SHOULD correct your FAFSA, but it may not make a large difference in the aid UMass offers your son as they don’t meet full need anyway. A lot depends on your family income. If it’s higher than the threshold for federally funded aid, you may not see much of a change in UMass financial aid (especially if you are an out of state student looking for funding to close the financial gap beteen that out of state tuition and instate costs).
