I was a dependent living with my parents, but now that I am going to transfer in the Fall they are cutting off all contact and financial support from me. Since the transfer was pretty sudden, I started my FAFSA in the beginning of the year and haven't been able to get it updated with my parent's new income tax information. I have not yet found a job yet and have never filed income tax. How could I fill in my FAFSA for this year?

Unless you are 24, married, have a dependent, or are in the military you’ll need your parents’ info ASAP.

Actually…you will need your parents’ information unless you: have a bachelors degree, are over 24, are married, have a dependent child you support, are an orphan, are (or were) a ward of the state, are a veteran of the armed forces.

If you can’t answer YES to any of these questions…you will need your parents’ information.

Also…how much aid do you need? You say you are “transferring in the fall”. That term starts mighty soon. The deadlines for financial aid have LONG SINCE PASSED for anything other than the Stafford loan and a Pell Grant (if you were eligible…with your parents’ incomes included). Any institutional aid likely has long since been awarded.

Did you have a plan for paying for college before you made this “sudden transfer”? I hate to sound rough but financial plans are AS important as college acceptances…maybe moreso…you can’t attend if you can’t pay.
