FAFSA Package question

I am a high school senior who will fill out the FAFSA this January..... my question is....how long will I have to wait to find out the package each school is willing to give me....

The aid I reiceve will most likely effect where I will end up so this is very important....I know all schools are different....but what is the average date that most people find out about thier aid package with pell grants, loans, etc....

It depends upon the school. Schools that send out acceptances April 1 usually send out the financial aid package shortly after that. State universities and other schools with rolling admission may send them sooner--or later. We never did get the financial aid offer from one school that accepted my son, because it was to be sent in May, and he had already decided by then not to attend that college. (Most send them earlier, thank goodness!)

In my son's case they all arrived before May 1, but just before in some cases. Take into consideration that they were sent via snail mail and slow boat to reach him. He did request email financial aid letters and got them because of this. Merit awards were listed with his acceptance letters or soon thereafter.

Don't students have to decide where they want to go and pay the deposit in May? Hopefully the financial aid package comes before May if thats one of the primary things to look at when picking a college

Yes, most colleges (selective ones, at least) want an acceptance by May 1st. That did make it frustrating for us, since the college that did not send out a financial aid package was in my son's top three as he was deciding. However, he decided against that one, so it was OK for us. (That one was a state university. They HAD sent him a letter containing some merit aid, just not the total aid package.)

thanks....ill call each university for more information....ive already been acceptted to most of my colleges....so hopefully the financial aid packages come in on or before April, so that i have time to decide.
