My friends mom did not earn any income last year, and she does not work-
her brother is the one who supports both her mom and her
so on FAFSA she choose NOT GOING TO FILE but she does not know what to put for INCOME
should she put her brothers income???? or does she need to put $0 since her mother did not earn anything ? :/

The income the FAFSA is asking for is the parent’s income. If that was $0 then you put $0.

You do not list sibling income on the FAFSA.

alright, thanks

Tell your friend that if she is chosen for verification, the school will have a non-tax filer form for her mom to fill out. Schools deal with this situation all the time … some schools more than others (where I worked, it was ALL THE TIME!!).

I think that would be more like WHEN she is selected for verification with 0 income.

Believe it or not, I actually saw quite a few students with 0 income who were not selected for verification last year. And I saw more than I expected with non-aid eligible income selected. It was weird. But yes, I would expect that the student would most likely be selected.
