My parents are divorced, but I live with my mom. Do both my parents need a pin or just my mom? She already has one, and so do I. I am just wondering whether my dad needs a PIN.

PS: How much finaid information do I have to state in the Fafsa about my Father's financial situation?

For FAFSA you will only need your Mom's financial info (and if she is remarried her spouse)and just you & your Mom will need a PIN.

If you are applying to any schools that require CSS/Profile then for thatyou would need financial info for both parents (and their respective spouses if applicable)

Only one parent needs a PIN. The student needs a PIN...you have what you need. Since your mom is your custodial parent, and your parents are divorced, you do not put any information about your father's finances on the FAFSA.

Now...if you have to complete the CSS Profile for any schools, you will have to provide your dad's info.

SImply having custody does not mean that that parents information goes on the FAFSA. Is your mom the one that provides more than half of your support? If not than the father's info goes on the FAFSA.

we went to the PIN website and chose our own--my son and myself each got one--my understanding is we can go ahead and use this to electronically sign once we complete the FAFSA--is that true? seems others are waiting for a PIN so little confused
thanks

If you are trying to sign the 08-09 FAFSA, then the PIN can be used once to sign it. Otherwise, you need to wait till the 1 to 3 business days are up.

This is not correct. It is the custodial parent's information that goes on FAFSA. Only when a student spends equal time with both parents does the question of who provides the most support matter.

If your parents are divorced (or separated - see below for more information), answer the questions about the parent you lived with more during the 12 months preceding the date you complete the FAFSA. If you did not live with one parent more than the other, give answers about the parent who provided more financial support during the 12 months preceding the date you complete the FAFSA or during the most recent year that you actually received support from a parent. If this parent has remarried as of the date you fill out the FAFSA, answer the questions on the remaining sections of the FAFSA about that parent and the person he or she married (your stepparent).
