Is the FAFSA pin the four digit number that you had to set on the website, or something else?

No. You have to use a form that is on the FAFSA site. There is a place to click in the first column (fafsa.ed.gov) where you apply for the PIN. You must get two-- one for you, the student, and one for your parent(s) filling out the form, if you are their dependent. You need these to electronically sign your FAFSA when it is complete. Both PINs must be used.

I went to that website and followed the procedure to apply for a pin and I recall setting a 4 digit number, then I believe I recvd and answer screen. Was the pin on that answer screen? I assume this pin is stored somewhere in the fafsa db’s. Is there anyway to recall it if forgotten?

The PIN comes a few days after you apply for it, so I don’t know the time frame you are mentioning, JCD.

The following if from the FAFSA website: “Important Note A PIN that is selected or viewed instantly online or is sent to you in an e-mail is considered to be conditional until your information is verified with the Social Security Administration (1-3 days from the date you first apply). You may sign your 2008-2009 FAFSA with it, but nothing else. Once we complete this verification, you will be able to use your PIN for other purposes (such as correcting your SAR or accessing other Federal Student Aid Web sites).”

As far as what to do if you forget it, I don’t know, but there may be a place that you can either call or click on to get it back. I would suggest writing it down, or copying the page that they will send it to you on, so that doesn’t happen!

Yep, go to the main pagem of the PIN site, and look on the left hand side of the page. The 3rd link from the top says Request a Duplicate PIN, to be used if you forget yours.
