I received a letter from the financial aid office asking to fill out a quality assurance form along with my parents' tax returns for aid. The letter assigned me a student ID. Is this a random thing or a good sign that my application for admission has passed a major hurdle and is moving in the right direction? Help oh wise ones.

It’s random…were you selected for verification from FAFSA? Daughter received one as well.

No, it came from the school’s Financial Aid office asking for a “Dependent Quality Assurance” Form to be returned.

I was asking an additional question…if you were selected for verification when you filed FAFSA. As stated previously, my daughter received the same request from W&M’s financial aid department. However, when filing FAFSA, verficiation was noted. We assumed this was W&M’s means to verifiy our data.

With her, and with D1 two years ago, we received many requests from schools’ financial aid departments requested additional information. D1 was not accepted into a few of the schools that needed further information. This letter unfortunately, doesn’t mean a leg up on acceptance.

No, my FAFSA was not randomly selected for verification. Thanks for asking and clearing that up.

We were asked for additional financial information from W&M two years ago. I don’t remember specifically what it was, but I did have to copy my tax return and send it. My daughter was ultimately waitlisted.

To the OP: Are you in-state or out? Do you need financial aid to attend, or not?

I am in state and need financial aid.

If you’re in-state, that’s obviously much better, and there are financial aid programs in place for you. We are OOS and needed money. Big difference.

I may have mispoken. There is a thread in the financial aid area and many posters believe the adcom looks at an application favorably prior to the financial aid office requesting further documentation.

"What’s the relation beween Admission Office and Financial Aid Office? "

Thank you, “mom!”
