I helped my daughter fill out fafsa and we qualified for automatic 0 efc. Then it asked if I wanted to continue filling out the fafsa form with the remainder of our financial info and we checked no. Did I make a mistake? Will this take her out of the running for other aid such as the fseog? Can I somehow amend the form at this point or will the school contact us if they need more info? Thanks in advance for any help.

It shouldn’t take her out of the running for anything. If your school requires the info they will let you know. But if you feel more comfortable providing it you can go in and adjust the FAFSA to include it. It will not affect your EFC.

It seems to be linked to your State of residence for some reason. Our State does not allow us to opt out of providing the information. Not sure why as the small need based State grant is based on the EFC alone as far as I can tell.

Yeah, it won’t matter. I chose to include that info because my parents’ savings had decreased from when we submitted the PROFILE, and I wanted colleges to know that.

I strongly suggest providing the info, just in case. I often have to collect asset info during verification when I correct things parents incorrectly answered. If they no longer qualify for auto 0 EFC or simple needs, the EFC is estimated until the asset info is entered. It’s a pain. On the other hand, if the student is not verified, or if verification doesn’t change anything … having the info on file doesn’t hurt the student.

If I add the info, do I add it from the date I submitted the original fafsa, such as savings balances, etc., or do I add those balances as of the day I do the corrections? I just received my income tax refund, so now the balance is higher.

It’s as of the date you completed your initial FAFSA.
