FAFSA Question - I chose 'Will File" as Tax return not complete yet - wil schools receive my FAFSA?

Hi there. I completed the FAFSA with my father and as we have not received his 2015 year end W2, he hasn’t completed the 2015 tax return yet. I have some schools that require the FAFSA by 2/15/16. Assuming his W2 doesn’t come until end of the month and then the possibility that the my dads actual tax return is not completed/submitted by 2/15, does what we submitted meet what my schools/scholarships require? Or does, my dad have to RUSH completion of his tax return as soon as he receives his W2 so the tax return can be official filed and then we can choose “filed” on the FAFSA? Thanks for any info.

Not sure if this matters but we are not expecting any need aid but the FAFSA needs sent in for a few scholarships as a requirement.

If you submitted your FAFSA with estimated numbers, your schools will receive it…and it will satisfy their deadlines for submission.

But get those taxes done ASAP. And then amend the FAFSA, change to “taxes completed” and resubmit.

Thanks @thumper1 Is it ok if my dads taxes are “completed” and he changes the status on the FAFSA by a certain date? Is there a certain FAFSA deadline?

You want to have taxes completed ASAP. Your schools will want you to link to the IRS data retrieval tool…and you can’t do that until 2-3 weeks after you file your taxes.

Your financial aid award will only be an estimate until your taxes are completed. So…you don’t want to delay too much. You want this done ASAP after February 1.
