FAFSA Question - Please HELP :)

Hello -

This is my first post, therefore please bear with me! I found this site and though, thank goodness,,there are others out there like me! My daughter has narrowed down her choices to two schools. The first one has provided their formal award letter which is great.

The second college has asked me to appeal their original award letter. Our finacial situation has changed and they really would like our daughter to attend. This school is realy her first choice.

I have uploaded our IRS data via the FAFSA, but our 2nd college has indicated they cannot see the information and needs it to start the appeal. I am VERY frustrated at this point, as I want to get this all going,, accept the package and start the loan process for the rest.

Has anyone else experienced this? Many thanks for your help!!!!

Did your daughter file with the IRS? If so, be sure you uploaded her information also. You have to do it from the ‘student’ portion of the FAFSA. Last year we were selected for FAFSA verification and after uploading DH and my IRS data I couldn’t understand why her FA page still showed items outstanding. We hadn’t uploaded her IRS file.

Also, double check to make sure you listed the 2nd school is listed on the FAFSA. If you can’t clear up the issue electronically you can request a tax transcript from the IRS which is mailed to you. This can then be sent to the school.

If you are in a city (or near one) that has an IRS office, you can walk in and request a tax transcript. They will print it up for you right there. You will need photo ID for yourself, and your daughter (if she paid taxes for 2012) will have to bring photo ID to request the transcript from her own taxes.
